  • Amiga Technologies ships the A4000T microcomputer. It features a 25 MHz Motorola 68040 microprocessor (or 50 MHz 68060), 2 MB chip RAM, 24-bit color, 4-channel stereo sound, IDE and SCSI II adapters, 3.5 inch 880 KB floppy drive, 1 GB hard drive, and the AmigaOS 3.1 operating system. [186]

  • A group of Amiga fans creates the Phoenix Platform Consortium, to develop an Amiga-like computer compatible with older versions of the Amiga operating system. [1559]

  • Gateway announces plans to build information appliances based on Amiga technology. [1559]

  • Amiga president Jim Collas resigns; he is replaced by Tom Schmidt. [1559]
September 17
  • Gateway announces it has scrapped plans to develop a new Amiga computer, but would consider licensing the Amiga hardware design. [1559]
