Welcome to Postage Stamp Design Errors site.
This listing is intended to document only design errors that unintentionally become released postage stamps. This excludes errors that are part of the source artwork for a stamp, or "artistic license" which results in an impossible scenario or simplification of details. For example, a drawing with overly wide or narrow spacing of the funnels of the Titanic ship would not be considered a design error, but only including three funnels, or showing smoke from the rear funnel would be an error. Colors on stamps may be considered design errors if they are acknowledged and later corrected. Misspellings are errors when they are part of the original design, used on all stamps, which should have been caught and corrected. Misspellings that occur on only some stamps are often the result of damage to the printing plates. As time permits, I look for additions based on magazines and other websites. If you know of omissions, please let me know. I have access to the Scott catalogs; if anyone can provide missing catalog numbers for other numbering systems (Stanley Gibbons, Michel, Yvert, etc.) that would be greatly appreciated. Your contributions of images and information to this list will be gladly accepted. Send me email at ken@kpolsson.com.
