A listing of postage stamps of Switzerland depicting design errors.

1907 (month unknown)

Switzerland

2-, 3-, and 5-centime stamps depict William Tell's son with bow drawn with bow-string in front of stock. Later corrected when re-drawn.

Catalog numbers: Scott 126-28; Stanley Gibbons 225-227

Approximate value: US$1.05 (Scott 2010).

1940 (month unknown)

Switzerland

5c+5c stamp depicts Gottfried Keller with year of birth 1818 in error, fixed and re-issued with correct year 1819.

1944 September 1

Switzerland

20-centime airmail stamp depicts Swissair Fokker VII b tri-motor aircraft bearing registration number 157. Swissair tri-motor aircraft existed with registration numbers 162-66, 190, and 192-3, not 157. There was a Fokker VII a with registration number 157, but it was single-engined.

Catalog numbers: Scott C38; Stanley Gibbons 442

Approximate value: US$0.30 (Scott 2010).

1949 August 1

Switzerland

3-centime stamp depicts high tension electricity lines; each tower should hold 3 pairs of transmission wires and one ground wire (total 7 each), so we should see 14 wires in the gap between the two pairs, but there are only 11.

Catalog numbers: Scott 328; Stanley Gibbons 510

Approximate value: US$1.50 (Scott 2010).

1960 (month unknown)

Switzerland

40-centime stamp depicts a cathedral in Geneva, with the two towers reversed (note the upper row of three windows on the left).

Catalog numbers: Scott 389; Stanley Gibbons 621

Approximate value: US$0.20 (Scott 2010).

1960 (month unknown)

Switzerland

70-centime stamp depicts Saints Peter and Stephen Church, with a tower in the background and on the wrong side. This was actually done wrong, on purpose, as the denomination had to go on the left side of the stamp. Re-issued in 1963 without the tower showing, which is actually correct, as from that angle the tower (correctly on the left) is not tall enough to be visible.

Catalog numbers: Scott 392; Stanley Gibbons 624

Approximate value: US$0.40 (Scott 2010).

1963 September 16

Switzerland

50-centime stamp depicts globe (Earth) and Moon, but with different lighted areas indicating coming from different light sources (two Suns?).

Catalog numbers: Scott 432; Stanley Gibbons 685

Approximate value: US$0.40 (Scott 2010).

1978 March 9

Switzerland

20-centime stamp depicts Il Verbano, with wind blowing sails left and blowing flag and smoke right.

Catalog numbers: Scott 656b; Stanley Gibbons MS952

Approximate value: US$0.30 (Scott 2010).

Next country: Syria.
