  • 2008 - The Queen Elizabeth 2 ocean liner leaves Southampton, England, on its last ever voyage. Following the voyage, the 41-year-old liner will be turned into a floating hotel in Dubai.
  • 2008 - Death of Jack Scott, British meteorologist (BBC), at age 85.
  • 2009 - At the Greensville Correctional Center in In Jarratt, Virginia, USA, John Allen Muhammad is executed by lethal injection. Muhannad was convicted of sniper shootings that killed 10 people and terrified the Washington, D.C., region in 2002.
  • 2010 - The G-20 summit is held in Seoul, South Korea. Korea becomes the first non-G8 nation to host a G-20 leaders summit.
  • 2010 - The 20,000th defector from North Korea arrives in South Korea.
  • 2017 - Death of Kirti Nidhi Bista, 25th Prime Minister of Nepal (born 1927).
  • 2019 - A transit of Mercury occurs.
  • 2020 - The Sputnik V vaccine is proven to be 92% effective against COVID-19 according to interim results.
  • 2020 - Death of Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, 1st Prime Minister of Bahrain (born 1935).
  • 2021 - Death of Frederik Willem de Klerk at age 85; President of South Africa.
  • 2021 - SpaceX launches the Crew-3 mission, carrying four Expedition 66 crew members to the International Space Station.
