  • 80th: 1944 - Birth of Keith Emerson in England; musician (Emerson, Lake and Palmer - "Brain Salad Surgery").
  • 80th: 1944 - Japanese begin launching large balloons with bombs destined for the west coast of North America. The balloons maintain a range of altitude by releasing sandbags or hydrogen automatically during their flight. The bombs are set to be released when all sandbags have been dropped.
  • 70th: 1954 - Birth of Ruben Guerrero in Mexico; relay swimmer (Olympic-1968).
  • 70th: 1954 - India takes over administration of four French Indian settlements.

  • 25th: 1999 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average removes Chevron Corporation, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Union Carbide Corporation, and Sears Roebuck from its index, replacing them with Microsoft Corporation, Intel Corporation, SBC Communications, and Home Depot Incorporated.
  • 25th: 1999 - Death of Walter Payton of bile duct cancer; American football player (Chicago Bears halfback) (born 1954).
  • 20th: 2004 - A 16-year-old Palestinian Muslim blows himself up in an outdoor market in Tel Aviv, killing three Israelis.
  • 15th: 2009 - US lender CIT Group files for bankruptcy protection, arranging with bondholders to reduce debt by US$10 billion. In its filing it showed US$71 billion in finance and leasing assets against total debt of US$64.9 billion, making this the fifth biggest in US corporate history.
  • 15th: 2009 - In Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi, round 17 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship is won by Sebastian Vettel.
  • 15th: 2009 - The FIA Formula 1 World Championship is won by Jenson Button.
  • 15th: 2009 - In Okayama, Japan, round 11 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship is held. Race 1 is won by Andy Priaulx; race 2 is won by Augusto Farfus.
  • 15th: 2009 - The FIA World Touring Car Championship is won by Gabriele Tarquini.
  • 5th: 2019 - Apple launches Apple TV+ video streaming service.
