  • 30th: 1994 - Medgar Evers' murderer Byron De La Beckwith sentenced to life in prison, in Jackson, Mississippi, 30 years after the crime.
  • 25th: 1999 - Death of Wassily Leontief, Russian economist, Nobel Prize laureate (born 1906).
  • 20th: 2004 - John Hench dies, at age 95. Hench worked at The Walt Disney Company for 64 years, the longest of any Disney employee. He worked on animation, and took part in the creation of all Disney parks.
  • 15th: 2009 - The Bank of England reduces interest rates to a record low of 1 percent.
  • 15th: 2009 - Undefeated world super-middleweight and light-heavyweight boxing champion Joe Calzaghe of the United Kingdom announces his retirement, with a record of 46 wins from 46 fights.
