  • 25th: 1999 - Manchester United wins the UEFA Champions League at the Nou Camp stadium, Barcelona, beating Bayern Munich to lift their third major trophy of the season, after winning the English Premier League and FA Cup, an unprecedented feat for a single season.
  • 20th: 2004 - Terry Nichols is convicted by an Oklahoma state court on murder charges stemming from the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
  • 20th: 2004 - F.C. Porto wins the European Champion Clubs Cup defeating A.S. Monaco by 3-0.
  • 15th: 2009 - France opens its first permanent military base in the Persian Gulf, in the Abu Dhabi emirate of the United Arab Emirates. The base will be manned by up to 500 French troops and include a navy base, air base, and training camp.
  • 15th: 2009 - US President Barack Obama announces the appointment of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
  • 15th: 2009 - More than 155 people are killed by Cyclone Aila in Bangladesh and West Bengal in eastern India. At least 500,000 people are made homeless by the storm.
  • 5th: 2019 - (to May 27) More than 50 prisoners are killed in a series of riots at four different prisons in Amazonas, Brazil.
