  • 80th: 1944 - Birth of Robbie Robertson; writer (Carny).
  • 80th: 1944 - Harry Crosby takes first rocket airplane, MX-324, for maiden flight.
  • 40th: 1984 - US Supreme Court weakens 70-year-old "exclusionary rule"-evidence seized.
  • 25th: 1999 - U.S. Army Pfc. Barry Winchell is bludgeoned in his sleep at Fort Campbell, Kentucky by fellow soldiers; he dies the next day from his injuries.
  • 25th: 1999 - Mark Sandman, lead singer of the Boston-based rock band Morphine, collapses on stage during a concert in Rome and dies of a heart attack at age 47.
  • 20th: 2004 - Death of Hugh Shearer, Prime Minister of Jamaica (born 1923).
  • 20th: 2004 - Pitcher Eric Gagne of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim sets a new record streak of 84 consecutive saves, as he gives up a win on his 85th game.
  • 15th: 2009 - Roger Federer defeats Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon men's tennis final, winning a five-set match 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14 for a record 15th Grand Slam championship.
  • 15th: 2009 - General election in Bulgaria: 39.7 percent for Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, led by Boyko Borisov, who will form coalition government.
  • 15th: 2009 - Over 150 are killed when a few thousand ethnic Uyghurs target local Han Chinese during major rioting in Ürümqi, Xinjiang.
  • 15th: 2009 - In Porto, Portugal, round 7 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship is held. Race 1 is won by Gabriele Tarquini; race 2 is won by Augusto Farfus.
  • 15th: 2009 - In Laguna Seca, USA, round 8 of the FIM MotoGP Championship is won by Dani Pedrosa.
  • 5th: 2019 - Head of BMW, Harald Krüger, announces he will step down.
