Personal Computer history:

  • 1982 - Apple Computer' Steve Jobs writes to the president of McIntosh Laboratory seeking worldwide release for name "Macintosh" for use in computer industry. Lawyers for the company deny the request.
  • 1992 - Fall COMDEX is held in Las Vegas, Nevada, with about 2,000 company booths, and 145,000 people attending.
  • 1992 - At Fall COMDEX, Advanced Micro Devices demos its 50 MHz 486 chips.
  • 1992 - At Fall COMDEX, Trident announces the Storm graphics accelerator chips for ISA, MCA, or VL-Bus graphics cards. The chips support up to 2 MB of video memory, allowing resolutions up to 1280x1024. Prices will be about US$23-30 each in volume.
  • 1992 - At COMDEX, IBM demonstrates its "Blue Lightning" 486 processor, running at 100 MHz internally. It is like a 486SLC2 with 16 kB cache, 386DX-compatible 32-bit bus interface, and clock tripler.
  • 1992 - Microsoft ships Microsoft Access 1.0 database program for Windows. Price is US$99.
  • 1998 - At the Comdex trade show, Iomega announces the Zip 250 drive. It uses an external SCSI or parallel port connection, and can read and write both 100 MB and 250 MB cartridges. Transfer rate is up to 1.7 MBps. Price is US$199. Price for 250 MB cartridges is about US$17 each.
  • 1998 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the AMD K6-2 processor at speeds of 366, 380, and 400 MHz. Bus speeds are 66, 95, and 100 MHz respectively, and volume prices are US$187, US$213, and US$283.
  • 2005 - Cuba issues a postage stamp depicting a personal computer.
  • 2005 - Morocco issues a 6-dirham postage stamp for the World Summit on the Information Society meeting in Tunis, depicting a laptop computer.
Video Game history:

  • 1998 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the film Enemy of the State to theaters in the USA. A NEC Turbo Express portable video game system appears.
  • 1999 - Electronic Arts releases the 007: Tomorrow Never Dies video game for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. When a character wins at roulette, he says "First thing tomorrow, we're getting a PlayStation 1".
  • 2004 - Atari releases the Atari Anthology video game collection for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It includes 85 classic Atari arcade and 2600 games: Asteroids, Centipede, Tempest, Missile Command, Breakout, Yars' Revenge.
  • 2005 - Koei releases the Dynasty Warriors 5 video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2008 - Nintendo releases the Animal Crossing: City Folk video game for the Nintendo Wii in the USA.
  • 2010 - Ubisoft releases the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2010 - Activision releases the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2010 - Sega releases the Sonic Colors video game for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS in the US.
