Personal Computer history:

  • 1993 - id Software releases the Doom game for MS-DOS to the public, via the ftp site on the University of Wisconsin's computer system. The game's name was inspired by a scene in the movie The Color of Money.
  • 1993 - SunSoft (a subsidiary of Sun Microsystems) ships the first version of WABI, providing Microsoft Windows application compatibility on Solaris, Intel, and Sparc versions of UNIX.
  • 1993 - Paramount Pictures releases the film Wayne's World 2 to theaters in the USA. A character in the film wears an Amiga Video Toaster t-shirt.
  • 1994 - Netscape Communications serves notice of its lawsuit against Spyglass and the University of Illinois.
Video Game history:

  • 1982 - Imagic postpones its public stock offering from mid-December to early next year due to "unsettled market conditions".
  • 1982 - Mattel loses one-third of its market value in heavy stock trading.
  • 1998 - Acclaim releases the Turok 2: Seeds of Evil video game for the Nintendo 64.
  • 2005 - Microsoft launches the Xbox 360 video game system in Japan.
  • 2005 - The Spike TV network airs Spike TV's Video Game Awards 2005 show.
    • Best Action Game: God of War by Sony CEA.
    • Best Cast: Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie.
    • Best Driving Game: Burnout Revenge.
    • Best Game Based on a Movie: Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie.
    • Best Handheld Game: Lumines by Ubisoft.
    • Best Individual Sports Game: Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, by Activision Publishing.
    • Best Military Game: Call of Duty 2 by Activision.
    • Best Multiplayer Game: World of Warcraft by Blizzard Entertainment.
    • Best Original Song: "Maybe We Crazy" by 50 Cent, in 50 Cent Bulletproof.
    • Best Performance by a Human Female: Charlize Theron in Aeon Flux.
    • Best Performance by a Human Male: Jack Black in Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie.
    • Best Team Sports Game: Madden NFL 06.
    • Best Wireless Game: Marc Echo Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure.
    • Cybervixen of the Year: Maria Menounosa Eve in James Bond 007 From Russia With Love.
    • Designer of the Year: David Jaffe, for God of War.
    • Game of the Year: Resident Evil 4.
    • Most Addictive Game: World of Warcraft by Blizzard Entertainment.

  • 2010 - Electronic Arts releases the Medal of Honor video game for the PlayStation 3 in the US.
  • 2011 - Nintendo releases the Circle Pad Pro for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. The accessory adds a second analog Circle Pad controller, and a second set of shoulder buttons. Price is 1500 yen (US$20).
