Personal Computer history:

  • 1998 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A personal computer (system unit, CRT monitor, keyboard) appears, with all glass sides showing the insides.
  • 2001 - Advanced Micro Devices launches the 1.33 GHz Athlon processor. Price is US$350 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2005 - Netherlands issues a 39-cent postage stamp depicting a laptop computer.
  • 2006 - Intel releases the 3.73 GHz Pentium Processor Extreme Edition 965 dual core processor. Price is US$999 in 1000-unit quantities.
Video Game history:

  • 1988 - Howard Lincoln and Minoru Arakawa of Nintendo sign contract with representatives of Electronorgtechnica of the USSR for worldwide home video game rights to the game Tetris.
  • 1993 - US Supreme Court refuses to hear appeal from Nintendo over the Lewis Galoob Toys' Game Genie product.
  • 1996 - In Japan, Bandai releases the Pippin Atmark multimedia system. It features PowerPC 603 processor, 6 MB RAM, 14.4 kbps modem, CD-ROM reader. Price is 64,820 yen (US$620).
  • 1996 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil video game for the PlayStation in the US. The game innovates by creating the survival-horror genre.
  • 1996 - TGL releases the Steam Hearts: the Crying Game video game for the PC Engine in Japan.
  • 1997 - Namco releases the Tekken 3 arcade game.
  • 2002 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. Two characters play "Crash Nebula" on a home video game system. The final question in a Brain-a-Thon competition is about the propulsion system of a spaceship in a video game.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Pokémon Colosseum video game for the GameCube in the US. Price is US$49.99.
  • 2005 - Midway releases the NARC video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2005 - Sony releases the God of War video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2005 - EA Games releases the TimeSplitters: Future Perfect video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2006 - THQ releases the Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers video game for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2009 - Nintendo releases the Pokémon Platinum video game for the Nintendo DS in the USA.
  • 2009 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character says "You said we were going to a video game expo". Three characters jump around a rock formation like in the video game Q*Bert.
  • 2011 - Electronic Arts releases the Crysis 2 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - LucasArts releases the LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars video game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2011 - Square Enix releases the Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy video game for the PlayStation Portable in the US.
  • 2011 - Namco Bandai releases the Ridge Racer 3D video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the US.
