Personal Computer history:

  • 1977 - Apple Computer introduces the Apple II at the West Coast Computer Faire. The computer features a 6502 CPU, 4 kB RAM, 16 kB ROM, keyboard, 8-slot motherboard, game paddles, graphics/text interface to color display, and built-in BASIC, for US$1298. It is the first personal computer with color graphics.
  • 1997 - Apple Computer reports a first quarter loss of $740 million, largest quarter loss ever for a Silicon Valley company.
  • 2002 - Advanced Micro Devices announces the Mobile Athlon XP 1400+ (1.2 GHz), 1500+ (1.3 and 1.33 GHz), 1600+ (1.4 GHz), and 1700+ (1.47 GHz) processors. They feature 200 or 266 MHz bus (1700+ is 266 MHz only). The processors are manufactured with a 0.13-micron technology, based on the processor core code-named Thoroughbred.
  • 2005 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A scene from the future shows someone with a laptop computer.
