Personal Computer history:

  • 1978 - Fortune magazine publishes an article on ComputerLand.
  • 1984 - At the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Apple Computer unveils the Apple IIc with an intense publicity extravaganza. It features a 1 MHz 65C02A processor, 128 kB RAM, 16 kB ROM, 3.5-inch floppy drive, 63-key keyboard, carrying handle, optional 9-inch monitor. Weight is 7.5 pounds. The operating system supports 40- or 80-column screens, and allows both QWERTY and Dvorak keyboard layouts. Priced at US$1300, 2,000 dealers place orders for more than 52,000 units on the day of its introduction.
  • 1984 - Steve Jobs announces at the Apple IIc unveiling that 60,000 Macintosh computers have been shipped to date.
  • 1984 - Apple Computer ceases development of the Apple III and Apple III+
  • 1990 - At the Palladium in New York City, Commodore hosts Multimedia Live!, and announces the Amiga 3000 computer. The system features a Motorola 16 or 25 MHz 68030, 68881 or 68882 math coprocessor, new Enhanced Chip Set, Zorro III bus, 2 MB RAM, 40 or 100 MB hard drive, AmigaDOS v2.0, and AmigaVision authoring system. Prices are US$3299 (16 MHz, 40 MB), US$3999 (25 MHz, 40 MB), US$4699 (25 MHz, 100 MB).
  • 1995 - In Atlanta, Georgia, the Comdex/Spring show is held, over four days. The Windows World '95 conference is also held.
  • 1997 - Advanced Micro Devices announces that Digital Equipment will use the K6 processor in a business desktop computer line.
  • 2006 - Sun Microsystems CEO Scott McNealy says he will step down, with Jonathan Schwartz taking over his position.
  • 2006 - Intel announces a new personal computer platform: vPro, with security and management features built into the hardware.
Video Game history:

  • 1992 - Hudson releases the Star Parodia video game for the PC Engine in Japan.
  • 2006 - Electronic Arts releases the 2006 FIFA World Cup video game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2007 - Vivendi Universal releases the F.E.A.R. video game for the PlayStation 3 in the US.
