- 1978 - Intel introduces the 4.77 MHz 8086 microprocessor. It uses 16-bit registers, a 16-bit data bus, and 29,000 transistors, using 3-micron technology. Price is US$360. It can access 1 MB of memory. Speed is 0.33 MIPS. Later speeds included 8 MHz (0.66 MIPS) and 10 MHz (0.75 MIPS).
- 1981 - Xerox announces the Xerox 820 Information Processor computer. It uses the Z80 CPU, CP/M, and BASIC. The price with a dual disk drive and display is US$2995. During its development, it was code-named The Worm.
- 1997 - Digital Equipment releases Venturis FX-2 computers, featuring 166 or 200 MHz AMD K6 processors. Prices start at US$1250.
- 1999 - Apple Computer ships QuickTime 4 software for the Macintosh. This release adds MP3 audio support.
- 2004 - Apple Computer introduces a new Power Mac G5 computer. It features dual 2.5 GHz IBM PowerPC 970FX processors, 1.25 GHz front-side bus, liquid cooling system, 512 MB RAM, 160 GB hard drive, ATI Radeon 9600 XT graphics card with 128 MB RAM, 8X SuperDrive. Price is US$2999.
- 2004 - Apple Computer introduces a new Power Mac G5 computer. It features dual 1.8 GHz processors, 256 MB RAM, 80 GB hard drive, Nvidia GeForceFX 5200 Ultra graphics card with 64 MB RAM, 8X SuperDrive. Price is US$1999.
- 2006 - Chile issues a postage stamp depicting students using personal computers.
Video Game history:
- 2000 - Sega releases the Virtua Tennis video game for the Dreamcast in the US.
- 2003 - Nintendo releases the Donkey Kong Country video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US. Price is US$34.99.
- 2005 - Rockstar Games releases the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas video game for the Xbox in the US.
- 2009 - Electronic Arts releases the Rock Band Unplugged video game for the PlayStation Portable in the USA.
