Personal Computer history:

  • 1983 - Microsoft president James Towne leaves the company.
  • 1989 - Columbia Pictures releases the film Ghostbusters II to theaters in the US. A desktop personal computer is shown several times.
  • 1997 - In New York City, New York, the PC Expo trade show is held, over three days.
  • 1997 - At the PC Expo trade show, a dozen hardware manufacturers announce plans to produce NetPCs: Mitshubishi Electric, Compaq, HP, IBM, Dell, Acer, Gateway 2000, Mitac International, NEC, Pionex Technologies, Unisys, Zenith Data Systems.
  • 1999 - Microsoft releases Windows 98 Service Pack 1.
  • 2003 - Sony Electronics introduces the Clie PEG-NX80V handheld computer. It features Palm OS 5.0, 200 MHz processor, digital audio player, keyboard, 32 MB RAM, 1.3 mega-pixel camera, and 320x480 pixel color screen. Price is US$599.99.
  • 2003 - Sony Electronics introduces the Clie PEG-NX73V handheld computer. It feature Palm OS 5.0, 200 MHz processor, digital audio player, keyboard, 16 MB RAM, 0.31 mega-pixel camera, and 320x480 pixel color screen. Price is US$499.99.
Video Game history:

  • 1989 - Columbia Pictures releases the film Ghostbusters II to theaters in the US. Someone asks "Do you want to play ... Super Mario Bros?". A Nintendo NES Advantage joystick is used.
  • 1995 - Sega Enterprises cuts the price of the Saturn game system in Japan. from 44,800 yen to 34,800 (US$419), including the game Virtua Fighter free for the first month of sales.
  • 2006 - The Entertainment Software Association and the Entertainment Merchants Association file suit in the Federal District Court of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to overturn a new law imposing fines for selling violent video games to minors. U.S District Court Judge James Brady grants a temporary restraining order preventing the state of Louisiana from enforcing the new law.
