Personal Computer history:

  • 1996 - Netscape Communications releases Netscape Navigator 3.0.
  • 1997 - Advanced Micro Devices announces it has ceased manufacturing the K5 processor.
  • 1999 - Apple Computer files a complaint against eMachines for copying the look of the iMac with the eOne computers.
  • 2002 - Sony releases the Clie PEG-SJ20 handheld computer. It features 16 MB RAM, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, backlit monochrome 320x320 pixel screen, Palm OS 4.1, and Memory Stick slot. Price is US$199.
  • 2011 - Hewlett-Packard stock shares crash 20 percent, $12 billion of market value, the day after announcement of plan to spin off personal computer business and buy British software maker Autonomy for $10.3 billion.
  • 2020 - Apple becomes the first American company with a valuation of US$2 trillion.
