Personal Computer history:

  • 1991 - Apple Computer and Adobe Systems sign a letter of intent for Apple to include Adobe's font technology in future System 7 operating system.
  • 1993 - The Federal Trade Commission decides by a vote of 4-0 to cease investigating Microsoft for unfair trade practices. The US Department of Justice notifies Microsoft it is proceeding with its own antitrust investigation, focussing on DOS marketing practices. The European Commission also begins its own independent investigation.
  • 1998 - Activision releases the Quake III Arena game for Windows-based personal computers.
  • 2001 - Hewlett-Packard announces the DVD100i DVD writer. The drive is to be released in September, priced at US$599. This is the first DVD+RW drive available for personal computers.
  • 2001 - Advanced Micro Devices announces the 1.1 GHz Athlon 4 processor for portable computers. It features 200 MHz system bus, PowerNow technology, Streaming SIMD Extensions. Price is US$425.
  • 2001 - Advanced Micro Devices announces the 900 MHz Duron processor for portable computers. It features 200 MHz system bus, PowerNow technology, Streaming SIMD Extensions. Price is US$130.
  • 2001 - Apple Computer begins shipping a Power Mac G4 computer with dual 800 MHz PowerPC G4 processors, CD-RW/DVD-R SuperDrive, 256 MB RAM, and 80 GB hard drive. Price is US$3499.
  • 2002 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the 2 GHz Athlon XP 2400+ processor. Price is US$193 each in quantities of 1000.
  • 2002 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the 2.133 GHz Athlon XP 2600+ processor. Price is US$297 each in quantities of 1000.
  • 2007 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6400+ processor, US$251 in quantities of 1000.
Video Game history:

  • 2008 - At a video games convention in Leipzig, Germany, Sony announces a new version of its PlayStation Portable handheld video game system, to go on sale in Europe and the United States in mid-October. The PlayStation Portable 3000 will have a built-in microphone and a new screen which has more colors and is better suited for use outdoors.
