Personal Computer history:

  • 1984 - IBM makes a major software announcement of 31 programs for its personal computers. There are two series of programs, the IBM Business Management Series, for US$695 each, and the IBM Personal Decision Series, for US$150-250 each.
  • 1996 - IBM launches OS/2 Warp 4, in San Francisco, California. New features include Java technology, voice recognition software, and Open32 Win32 APIs. Price is US$249; upgrade is US$149. It is the first operating system to include built-in speech navigation and recognition.
  • 1996 - Microsoft releases DirectX 3.0 to software developers. Included is support for multimedia, multiplayer online games, 3D positional sound, and more input device support.
  • 1998 - National Semiconductor announces it will terminate its processor manufacturing agreement with IBM by the end of the year. As a result, IBM will lose access to Cyrix 6X86 designs, compatible with Intel x86 processors.
  • 2000 - Intel releases 800 and 850 MHz mobile Pentium III processors. Prices are US$508 and US$722 each in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2000 - Intel releases the 700 MHz mobile Celeron processor. Price is US$181 each in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2001 - Romania issues a postage stamp that depicts the first microprocessor, in 1971.
Video Game history:

  • 2001 - Enix releases the Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 video game for the Game Boy Color in the US.
  • 2003 - Nintendo of America reduces the price of the GameCube in North America to US$99.
  • 2005 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A mom says to her son "... I'm going to erase all the saved games on your PlayStation".
  • 2006 - Nintendo releases the Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2006 - EA Sports releases the NBA Live 07 video game for the Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable in the US.
  • 2007 - EA Sports releases the FIFA Soccer 08 video game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2007 - Microsoft releases the Halo 3 video game for the Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2012 - EA Sports releases the FIFA Soccer 13 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
