  • 1931 - Disney completes the Silly Symphony film The Busy Beavers.
  • 1938 - It is suggested that Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea be turned into a dream adventure for Mickey Mouse.
  • 1938 - Walt Disney receives an honorary Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University.
  • 1938 - Walt Disney receives an honorary Master of Arts degree from Harvard University.
  • 1955 - Buena Vista generally releases the film Lady and the Tramp to theaters in the US.
  • 1970 - David R. Smith, a bibliographer at the University of California in Los Angeles, is hired to establish the Walt Disney Archives.
  • 1971 - Buena Vista releases the live-action feature film Scandalous John to theaters. The film is based on the book by Richard Gardner.
  • 1977 - Disney releases the live-action short film A Tale of Two Critters to theaters.
  • 1977 - Buena Vista releases the animated feature film The Rescuers to theaters. This is the last animated film made by the original generation of Disney lead animators. It cost US$7 million to make.
  • 1984 - Roy Disney makes a deal with Disney, in which he, Stanley Gold, and Peter Dailey would join the board of directors. As part of the deal, Donn Tatum and Card Walker would have to resign from the executive committee. Roy would also be made vice-chairman.
  • 1984 - A California state court temporarily bars Saul Steinberg from spending his US$325.5 million from Disney until a hearing on July 5.
  • 1985 - The Videopolis attraction opens in Fantasyland at Disneyland. It is a 5000 square foot outdoor dance amphitheater with music videos playing on 70 monitors.
  • 1988 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures animated and live-action feature film Who Framed Roger Rabbit? to theaters. It cost US$50.6 million to make, and another US$30 million for marketing. This film marks the first-ever on-screen meeting of Donald Duck and Daffy Duck. The film is based on the book Who Censored Roger Rabbit? by Gary Wolf.
  • 1989 - Disney announces that it has adopted a stockholders' rights plan to protect the company from being acquired in a hostile takeover. The plan would allow shareholders to buy additional shares at half price, set to take effect if anyone acquires more than 25 percent or begins a tender offer.
  • 1990 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Betsy's Wedding to theaters.
  • 1994 - Disney releases the film Heidi on laserdisc for US$40.
  • 1994 - Disney releases the film Iron Will on laserdisc for US$40.
  • 1997 - The film Hercules has its California premiere at Cal Arts in Los Angeles.
  • 2005 - Disney releases the live-action feature film Herbie: Fully Loaded in theaters in the USA.
  • 2008 - The ABC Family TV network airs the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock.
  • 2012 - Disney releases the Pixar 3-D animated film Brave to theaters in the USA. Working title was The Bear and the Bow.
  • 2016 - Disney releases The BFG film to theaters in Sweden.

  • 1920 - Birth of Paul Frees in Chicago, Illinois; performed voices in thousands of radio, TV, movies, many Disney roles and in Disneyland attractions, named Disney Legend in 2006.
