  • 1908 - Edward Elgar's first Symphony in A, premieres.
  • 1930 - Richard Rodgers/L Hart's musical "Evergreen" premieres in London.
  • 1939 - Dmitri Shostakovich's 6th Symphony, premieres.
  • 1943 - Howard Hanson's 4th Symphony, premieres.
  • 1953 - Premiere of Dmitri Shostakovich's 5th String Quartet.
  • 1961 - Beatles meet future manager Brian Epstein.
  • 1965 - The Beatles begin final United Kingdom concert tour in Glasgow, Scotland.
  • 1971 - At a concert by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention in Montreux casino's showroom, a fan fires a flare gun, which results in burning down the entire casino. Members of rock music group Deep Purple witness the blaze, and later record the song "Smoke on the Water" about the incident.
  • 1979 - Eleven fans are killed during a crowd crush for unreserved seats before The Who concert at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
