  • 1979 - 14th Academy of Country Music Awards: Kenny Rogers and Barbara Mandrell win.
  • 1980 - The South African government bans the Pink Floyd song "Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)". The song had been adopted as the anthem for black children who boycotted schools because of inferior education standards.
  • 2023 - A US federal jury rules that singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran did not plagiarize Marvin Gaye.
