  • 1912 - Billy Mallett of Hamilton Tigers kicks 9 singles in a game.
  • 1912 - New York Yankees win final game at Hilltop stadium.
  • 1921 - First World Series radio broadcast, New York Yankees beat New York Giants 3-0 (World Series #18).
  • 1922 - New York Yankees and New York Giants play an infamous 3-3 tie World Series game (World Series #19).
  • 1941 - Mickey Owens drops a third strike, Tom Hendrick reaches first safely, would have been the last out, instead New York Yankees score 4 and win 7-4.

  • 1980 - Kansas City Royals' Willie Wilson establishes a major league record for the most at-bats in a season with 705.
  • 1980 - New York Yankees set American League attendance mark at 2,627,417.
  • 1982 - New Jersey Devils first game, ties Pittsburgh Penguins 3-3 at the Meadowlands Coliseum.
  • 1985 - Louisiana's Grambling Tigers, coached by Eddie Robinson, win record 324th football game.
  • 1990 - Death of Peter Taylor, English football player and manager (born 1928).
  • 2001 - The Atlanta Braves defeat the Florida Marlins 20-3 to clinch the National League East title and becomes the first team in professional sports to win 10 consecutive division titles.
  • 2001 - Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants breaks the single season home run record with his 71st and 72nd home runs of the year. Both are off pitcher Chan Ho Park of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
  • 2001 - The Seattle Mariners break the Major League Baseball record for wins in a season set by the 1998 New York Yankees, winning their 115th game, defeating the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field. The Mariners finish the season 116-46.
  • 2021 - At crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, USA, NHL pre-season game: Arizona Coyotes beats Los Angeles Kings by score 4-1.
  • 2021 - At Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, NHL pre-season game: Seattle Kraken beats Vancouver Canucks by score 4-0.
  • 2021 - At Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, USA, NHL pre-season game: Vegas Golden Knights beats Colorado Avalanche by score 7-4.
