  • 1946 - New York Knicks' first game at Madison Square Garden loses 78-68 to Chicago Stags.
  • 1959 - Seals Stadium in San Francisco is demolished.
  • 1960 - Largest New York Knicks' 49th Steet Madison Square Gardens crowd-18,499.
  • 1968 - Ron Hill sets record 10-mile run (46:44) at Leicester, England.
  • 1980 - New York Islanders' Mike Bossy scores four goals against Minnesota North Stars.

  • 1989 - Canadian swimmer Victor Davis is hit by a car outside a nightclub in Montreal, Quebec. He dies two days later.
