  • 1982 - Korean boxer Duk Koo Kim fatally injured when knocked out by Ray Mancini.
  • 1985 - Dwight Gooden, youngest 20-game winner in Major League Baseball, wins Cy Young award.
  • 1998 - The ball hit by Babe Ruth for his first home run hit in Yankee Stadium is sold at an auction for US126,500.
  • 2006 - Delmon Young is suspended for 50 games by the International League for throwing a bat which hit a replacement umpire in the chest.
  • 2006 - The New York Mets stage a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of the US$800 million 45,000-seat CitiField ballpark.
  • 2006 - The BBWAA votes Jason Verlander of the Detroit Tigers as American League Rookie of the Year Award.
  • 2021 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, USA, the Motul Petit Le Mans race is held, round 12 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 1st in DPi class and 1st overall is the Proton USA #55 Mazda DPi driven by Harry Tincknell, Jonathan Bomarito, and Oliver Jarvis.
    • Finishing 1st in LMP2 class and 5th overall is the Era Motorsport #18 ORECA LMP2 07 driven by Kyle Tilley, Ryan Dalziel, and Dwight Merriman.
    • Finishing 1st in LMP3 class and 8th overall is the Performance Tech Motorsports #38 Ligier JS P320 driven by Malthe Jakobsen, Dan Goldburg, and Rasmus Lindh.
    • Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 11th overall is the WeatherTech Racing #79 Porsche 911 RSR - 19 driven by Matt Campbell, Cooper MacNeil, and Mathieu Jaminet.
