  • 2006 - Houston Astros pitcher Russ Springer strikes the San Francisco Giants player Barry Bonds on the shoulder with his fifth pitch. He is suspended for four games for his action. Bonds needs just one home run to equal Babe Ruth's career home run mark.
  • 2006 - For the fourth time New York Yankees history, the team overcomes a nine-run deficit defeating the Texas Rangers at the Stadium, 14-13.
  • 2008 - In Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, the semifinals of the men's world hockey tournament is held. Russia defeats Finland 4-0, advancing to the final on May 18.

  • 2010 - Rafael Nadal of Spain wins a record 18th men's Masters tennis title by beating Roger Federer 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the Madrid Open final.
  • 2010 - Aravane Rezai of France upsets American Venus Williams 6-2, 7-5 to win her 3rd women's Masters tennis title in the Madrid Open final.
  • 2010 - American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan defeat Toronto's Daniel Nestor and partner Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia fell 6-3, 6-4 to win their 61st career doubles title at the Madrid Open final.
