  • 1905 - Boston Red Sox' pitcher Bill Dinneen no-hits Chicago White Sox, 2-0.
  • 1919 - Pitcher Bob Shawkey sets New York Yankees' record with 15 strike-outs.
  • 1921 - New York Yankees beat Cleveland Indians 21-7 in Polo Grounds stadium.
  • 1930 - Bobby Jones completes the Grand Slam of Golf.
  • 1930 - Chicago White Sox' first baseman Bud Clancy doesn't handle the ball at all in a 9-inning game versus Saint Louis Browns.
  • 1931 - Lou Gehrig completes his 6th straight Major League Baseball season, playing in every game.
  • 1942 - New York Giants beat Washington Redskins 14-7 without making a first down.
  • 1942 - Saint Louis Cardinals win National League pennant on last day of the season.
  • 1950 - Heavyweight champion Ezzard Charles defeats Joe Louis.
  • 1953 - Bert Bechichar, Baltimore Colts, kicks a 56-yard field goal.
  • 1964 - Philadelphia Phillies seventh straight loss sends them into second place.
  • 1967 - Philadelphia Phillies' Jim Bunning ties National League record of five 1-0 losses in a year.
  • 1970 - Ken Boswell sets second baseman record of 85 games without an error.
  • 1972 - First game at Nassau Coliseum, New York Rangers beat New York Islanders 6-4 (exhibition).
  • 1973 - California Angels' pitcher Nolan Ryan establishes a major league record striking out 383 batters in a season.
  • 1977 - Philadelphia Phillies clinch second straight National League East Division title.
  • 1991 - First scheduled NHL exhibition game in Saint Petersburg, Florida, is cancelled due to poor ice conditions (New York Islanders versus Boston Bruins).
  • 1997 - The Adelaide Crows win the AFL Premiership for the first time in their 7th season, beating Saint Kilda who have only ever won one premiership in their 100 year history.
  • 1998 - In the season finale, Mark McGwire ends the historic Major League Baseball season hitting his 69th and 70th home runs in the Saint Louis Cardinals' 6-3 win over the Montreal Expos.
  • 2000 - The United States Olympic team beats the favored Cuban team to win the country's first gold medal in baseball.
  • 2009 - In Singapore, round 14 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship is won by Lewis Hamilton.
  • 2020 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, USA, the Acura Sports Car Challenge race is held, round 7 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 1st in DPi class and 1st overall is the ACURA TEAM PENSKE #7 Acura DPi driven by Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor.
    • Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 8th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.
    • Finishing 1st in GT Daytona class and 12th overall is the AIM VASSER SULLIVAN #14 Lexus RC F GT3 driven by Aaron Telitz and Jack Hawksworth.

  • 2021 - At Abbotsford Centre in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, NHL pre-season game: Vancouver Canucks beats Calgary Flames by score 4-2.
  • 2021 - At Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, USA, NHL pre-season game: Arizona Coyotes beats Los Angeles Kings by score 2-1.
  • 2021 - At Enterprise Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, NHL pre-season game: Saint Louis Blues beats Dallas Stars by score 2-1.
  • 2021 - At Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, NHL pre-season game: Montreal Canadiens beats Toronto Maple Leafs by score 5-2.
