  • 1934 - Baby Face Nelson shot by FBI agents.
  • 1941 - US Secretary of War Stimson, acting for President Franklin Roosevelt, sends a general war warning to all US commands. US Chief of Naval Operations signals to Atlantic and Pacific fleet commanders "an aggressive move by Japan is expected within the next few days".
  • 1945 - General George C Marshall named special US envoy to China.
  • 1951 - First rocket to intercept an airplane, White Sands, New Mexico, USA.
  • 1966 - Billionaire Howard Hughes arrives in Las Vegas and enters the Desert Inn, occupying the entire 9th floor of the Saint Andrews Tower.
  • 1967 - Gold pool nations pledge support of $35 per ounce gold price.
  • 1973 - US Senate votes 92-3 to confirm Gerald R Ford as Vice President.
  • 1978 - In San Francisco, California, Mayor George Moscone and City Supervisor Harvey Milk are assassinated by former Supervisor Dan White.
  • 2007 - The Annapolis Conference, a peace conference trying to end the Arab-Israeli conflict, is held in Annapolis, Maryland in the United States.
  • 2019 - The U.S. Government passes the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.
