  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 6th circulating 2010 Olympics coin, a 25-cent coin depicting snowboarding. The design was created by Glen Green. Mintage limit is 22 million coins. [924.10] [930.1] [999.22] [1002.75] [1160.92]

  • The Royal Canadian Mint announces a new circulating $2 coin will be issued to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City. [931.33]
April 2
  • Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Centre Pat Martin (NDP) introduces a private member's bill in the House of Commons to eliminate the 1-cent coin from circulation. [933.1] [938.1] (April 7 [1004.76])
April 9
  • The Desjardins Group financial services provider releases a study calling for the abolition of the 1-cent and 5-cent coins, replacing the 25-cent coin with a 20-cent coin, and issuing a $5 coin to replace the $5 bank note. [1004.1] [1010.5]

  • The Royal Canadian Mint unveils the design of a $2 coin for circulation, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City. [931.33]

  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 7th circulating 2010 Olympics coin, a 25-cent coin depicting freestyle skiing. The reverse design was created by Glenn Green. [924.10] [930.1] [1000.26] [1002.75] [1007.78]

  • Canada Post issues a 52-cent postage stamp commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mint, depicting a circulated 1908 50-cent coin. [934.22] [936.11] [955.68] [1013.58]

  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases a circulating 2010 Olympics $1 Lucky Loonie coin. The coin depicts a loon landing in water, designed by Jean-Luc Grodin. [924.10] [944.27] [1018.50]

  • An order-in-council approves a circulating commemorative coin for the 90th anniversary of Armistice Day, for release in late October. [1025.58]
September 10
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 8th circulating 2010 Olympics coin, a 25-cent coin depicting figure skating. [924.10] [930.1]

  • Krause Publications' Coin of the Year nominating panel nominates Canada's One Million Dollars 100kg Maple Leaf for People's Choice Award. [949.1] [952.7]

  • The Royal Canadian Mint issues the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Coin Collection - Inukshuk. The set includes twelve 25-cent Olympic sport circulating coins, and two Lucky Loonies. Price is US$29.95. [957.23] [981.23]

  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases a red/white/black-colored 2008 poppy 25-cent circulating coin, "1918-2008 Armistice". The design was created by Cosme Saffioti. [951.1] [1032.5] [1038.78]

  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 9th Vancouver 2010 Olympics circulating 25-cent coin, depicting figure skating. The reverse design was created by Glenn Green. [950.1] [953.1] [1025.58] [1038.78]

  • The Royal Canadian Mint supplies four gold-plated $1 coins to Bell Centre, Montreal, for permanent display at Centennial Plaza. The coins are a version of the nickel aureate circulating $1 coin, with design featuring the 100th anniversary logo of the Montreal Canadiens NHL hockey team. The coins are embedded in four memorial plaques to legendary members of the team. The plaques also include two circulating 5-cent coins marking the start and end of each player's career. [954.1]
