July 21
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases a 2011 Proof 0.925 fine silver dollar, bearing the obverse and reverse designs of the 1911 silver pattern dollar, with dual date "1911-2011". Mintage limit is 15,000 plus 6000 in a Proof set. [1119.192]
August 16
  • At the ANA's World's Fair of Money in Rosemont, Illinois, the Royal Canadian Mint displays five trial strikes of Proof 2011 Full Hunter's Moon ringed bimetallic $5 coins, with niobium inserts in five different colors: orange, light blue, light green, pale yellow, and dark purple. [1128.42]
October 7
  • The Royal Canadian Mint announces a new 8-coin nature and wildlife series of circulating coins, six 25-cent, one $1 and one $2, some with color (green, blue, yellow). [1134.1]
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 2011 Parks Canada nickel-bronze aureate $1 coin to circulation, with mintage limit 5 million. [1134.52]
October 31
  • The Royal Canadian Mint unveils the 2011 Proof Highway of Heroes 0.9999 fine silver $10 coin. The design was created by Stan Witten. Weight is 15.87 grams, diameter 34mm, mintage limit 25,000, issue price $69.95. [1147.42]

2012

January 16
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 2011-dated Wood Bison 25-cent coin to circulation, some with green color. [1181.1]
January 23
  • The Royal Canadian Mint issues the 2012 Uncirculated set, with examples of the eight base metal circulating coins from 1-cent through $2. Mintage limit is 75,000; issue price is $23.95. [1149.42] [1181.40]
March 29
  • Canadian Minister of Finance announces the Royal Canadian Mint will cease distribution of the 1-cent coin in the fall. [1165.1]
April 11
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases 2012 $1 and $2 coins struck in a multi-ply plated steel alloy. The $1 coin has a brass outer plating, the $2 coin has and outer ring of nickel plating with an aluminum bronze plated center. The coins feature new security features: laser marks, virtual images, edge lettering. [1166.1] (April 10 [1172.4])
May 4
  • At the Royal Canadian Mint's facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Canadian finance minister strikes the last cent to be produced for circulation. The last one million struck for circulation will be sold as collector products. [1169.4]
June 18
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the $2 coin commemorating the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 to circulation. [1182.29]
July 19
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 2012 Lucky Loonie dollar to circulation. The coin depicts a loon with wings spread on a lake, with the Canadian Olympic team logo. [1174.42]
July 30
  • Canadian Finance Minister announces delivery of 1-cent coins will continue until February 3, 2013. [1176.36]
August 28
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 2012 $1 circulating coin celebrating the centennial of the Grey Cup trophy of the Canadian Football League. Mintage limit is 5 million. [1177.36] [1208.1]
October 13
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases to circulation the 2012 War of 1812 General Isaac Brock 25-cent coin, 12.5 million coins, half with red colored maple leaf, the other half without red color. The design was created by Bonnie Ross. [1191.36] [1194.10]
November 19
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases to circulation plain and colorized (red maple leaf) versions of the 2012 War of 1812 - Tecumseh quarter dollars. A total of 12.5 million coins are released. [1194.10]

2013

February 4
  • Last day of deliveries from the Royal Canadian Mint of the 1-cent coin for circulation. The Royal Canadian Mint struck 35 billion cent coins since 1908. [1192.36] [1196.36]
March 18
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases to circulation a pair of 2013 War of 1812 Lt. Col. Charles-Michel de Salaberry 25-cent coin, one version with red-colored maple leaf, the other with a frosted portrait. Total mintage: 12.5 million coins. [1206.5]
April 18
  • (to April 21) CICF show, Heritage Auction of Nikita Collection of Canadian Coins, Canada 1-cent 1936 with dot, MS-63 PCGS: US$210,000 + 17.5% buyer's fee. [1195.48] [1222.34]

2019

August
  • In Texas, Heritage Auctions conducts the sale of the George Hans Cook Collection.
    • Canada $1 1911 pattern, silver, Specimen-64: US$552,000 (CDN$735,000);
    • Canada 1-cent 1936 dot, PCGS Specimen-65: US$312,000 (CDN$415,000).

July
  • The Bank of Canada Museum acquires a 1911 $1 pattern in silver. [1216.1]
November
  • A 1936 1-cent coin with a dot sells at auction for C$446,600. [1218.1]

2022

February 1
  • The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 2022 6-coin specimen set, featuring the Swift Fox, 3rd in the Endangered Species series. Mintage limited to 30,000 sets. [1217.14]
May 9
  • The Royal Canadian Mounted Police charge Daixiong He of Ontario with two charges of counterfeit money crimes, each with a maximum prison sentence of 14 years. 10,000 counterfeit $2 coins were seized. The "Camel Toe" $2 coins were first noticed in circulation in August 2020 in Ontario. [1223.1]
December 7
  • The Royal Canadian Mint launched the 2022 $2 coin to circulation, featuring world's first black nickel-plated outer ring. [1227.24]

2023

February 4
  • The World of Money Fair is held in Berlin, Germany. The Coin of the Year organization presents awards for 2021-dated issues. The Royal Canadian Mint wins Best Crown Coin category for the $20 silver coin "Black and Gold: The Gray Wolf". The Royal Canadian Mint wins Best Circulation Coin category for the colored 10-cent coin commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Bluenose schooner. [1226.6]

  • The International Association of Currency Affairs names the Royal Canadian Mint's 2022 black nickel-plated $2 coin the best new circulating coin. [1227.24]
